Plot

The Bowery Boys have raised money to help a young polio victim in the neighborhood. At Mike Clancy's cafe, Sach was entrusted with the ninety dollars they collected to the bank. Sam, a new customer Mike, offers to give Sach a ride to the bank, but takes him to a fake gambling where, unaware that the operation is invalid, he loses all the money to deceive Tony and Al. After Duke cursed him for losing money, Sach told Blinky that he would give his soul for revenge. A few seconds after Blinky leaves, Sach receives a visit from the devil, wearing his morning coat and two little horns under his hat. Satan offers an agreement to Sach: he will provide Sach with the name of the winning horse every day for a week in exchange for Sach's soul. Despite his fear, Sach finally agreed and, after signing the devil's contract, was awarded with the winner that day.

When Sach returns to Tony and Al to make a bet, they ask for money to him. Sach then decided to sell his son's ties and take him to a used car dealership, not realizing that Duke had just sold the car to a patrolman. The dealer almost destroyed the car to reduce its value and offered Sach a penny for him, just as the police found and caught him. The devil visited Sach in prison and gave him the name of another winning horse. When Sach's horse triumphed, Tony and Al wondered if he might have inside information. With Mike's help, Duke and the others freed Sach and the next day, the devil reappeared in the shape of an organ grinding monkey with another tip. After the children find Sach chatting with the monkeys, they arrange him to visit a psychiatrist, but Sach only confuses the doctor, who finally asks him for tips on winning the horse. With twenty dollars borrowed from Mike, Sach returns to fake gambling to bet on the latest horses Satan has given him, and Tony and Al decide to place a valid bet on the same horse. At the last moment, however, Sach was persuaded by a tout to bet on a different horse and everyone lost. Tony and Al are confused with information from inside Sach and persuade Mabel, Tony's girl friend, to take a waitress's job at Mike's to keep an eye on Sach and find out the source of his tips. On the last day of their agreement, the devil gave Sach a hundred-dollar bill and asked him to go to the racetrack and wait for news of the name of the winning horse.

Sach and Duke went to the track, accompanied by Mabel, and followed by Tony, Al and Sam. Just after Sach received the name of the horse, "Rubber Check," from the devil, disguised as a soft drink seller, Chuck arrived with news that the Polio Fund had agreed to pay for the child's care. Sach then realizes that they now do not need the money and he can cancel the devil's contract. Duke, however, insists on betting on Rubber Check and Mabel tips from Tony and the others. Sach talks to the devil and tries to break the contract, but the devil refuses and points out that if the horse wins, Sach's soul is his. Sach then convinces Duke to help him to disable the Rubber jockey Check after Sach takes his place in the race, but can not stop the horse to win. Right after Sach explained the full dimension of his problem to the Duke, the devil appeared to claim himself, but was thwarted by the official announcement that Rubber Inspection was disqualified for having an illegal jockey, thus canceling Sach's contract with Sach and causing Tony and his gang to lose all their money.

Back at Bowery, Sach was surprised to find a devil disenfranchised working as a busboy at Mike's. After the devil tells him that he can get his "horn" back by securing a new client, Sach steers him toward the bookies.

Production

  • This and the next movie in the series ( In Money ) were created because Huntz Hall still has two more films left on his contract for Allied Artists.
  • This is the only movie in which Sach calls the Duke 'Head'. Usually, Sach will only refer to Slip (Leo Gorcey) as 'Chief', and will refer to Duke as 'Dukey'.
