Histori

Constantino Oberto founded the Oberaus Sausage Company to make and sell Italian-made sausage in Seattle, Washington, in 1918. Using an Italian family recipe, he began to make salami, coppacola, and other sausages. On Labor Day 1943, Oberto died leaving his company and two of his employees to his family. Art Oberto, 16-year-old son of Constantine, took over the company. He continued to run the company while completing his studies at West Seattle High School, resisting the pressure to sell the business. In 1954, revenues had been large enough to begin construction in a new plant, completed the following year, with the help of a loan from the family of Oberto's new wife, Dorothy Vennetti.

Oberto Brands continued to grow during the 1960s with the production of beef jerky products and the introduction of products at Safeway stores in 1967. Safeway was the first national shopping chain to bring the brand jerky Oberto.

In 1990, Laura Oberto joined his father in a leadership role and became vice chairman of the company. The following year, he took over as president of Oberto Brands. In 1994, Oberto Brands purchased the Kriya and Lowrey snack brands and snack facilities, both based in Albany, Oregon. The purchase adds 200 employees to the company. In 1999, the company entered into a distribution partnership with Frito-Lay. In 2002, Oberto Brands purchased Pacific Sun Industries that produced the Pacific Gold brand.

In 2009, after a slow sale, Oberto Brands terminated the distribution deal with Frito-Lay and began distributing its own products. Shortly after the agreement was terminated, Oberto Brands appointed CEO and president Tom Ennis. The company adjusted the recipe for its flagship beef product in 2012, removing corn syrup, preservatives, dextrose, and other artificial ingredients.

In 2013, Oberto Brands opened a production and distribution center in Nashville, Tennessee. The factory added more than 300 employees to the company. Ennis left the company in 2014 and Thomas Hernquist was appointed CEO and president in January 2015.

Oberto announced in April 2018 that it was sold to Premium Brand Holdings.

Marketing

Oberto Brands' eccentric marketing tactics began with Art Oberto, who often piloted the Lincoln Town Car branded Oberto, a "jerky car" around the Seattle area that began in the 1950s. The company also sponsored the Hydroplane racing boat from 1975 until the end of 2015.

The company, the "You Get Out What You Put In" campaign has professional athletes and has included snowboarder Louie Vito, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, the tightest New England Patriots end Rob Gronkowski, United States men's national football team, Clint Dempsey and sports broadcaster Dick Vitale spoke in a small voice in their belly played by Stephen A. Smith.

The company has also recruited former NFL players, Brian Urlacher and coach Harley Pasternak to join Dempsey and Vito as spokespersons for brands and active lifestyles.

Starting in 2014, Oberto Brands announced a partnership with the Tough Mudder event. As part of the deal, Oberto also donated $ 100,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project. This partnership was updated in 2015.

In 2015, the company launched an advertisement during Shark Week in which the CEO threw a piece of jerky to the sea and a large white shark jumped out of the water to eat it.
