cigarette containers is a container or device for extinguishing and disposing of cigarette waste. Other common names for cigarette containers include: ash jars, gray pans, cigarette butt containers, butt bins, butt holder, chopper, smoker pole, cigarette waste container, smoker waste container, and a combination of ash/junk. Initially provided as courtesy for smokers in public places, cigarette containers are now common as smoking bans and designated smoking places require proper disposal methods. Typical containers can hold hundreds - even thousands - of discarded cigarette butts. While the US congress is not seeking to pass a national smoking ban, many states and local governments enact their own laws governing smoking in public places.

Cigarette debris problem

The proper disposal of cigarette butts is promoted as an environmental and health issue. An estimated 4.5 trillion cigarette butts become garbage every year. While smoking in the United States has declined, cigar smoke remains the most scattered item in the United States and globally. The overall waste rate for cigarette butts is 65%, and all of them, tobacco products account for 38% of all road waste in the United States. Depending on the composition, cigarette butts can take as short as a month, and up to three years and longer to break down. Cigarette filters made from cellulose acetate eventually decompose, while some environmental groups claim that plastic-containing filters never completely decompose. Cigarette butts contain toxic chemicals including nicotine, cadmium and benzene.

Type of cigarette case

Cigarette containers for use in public and private companies can be installed on the wall or free standing, for indoor and outdoor use. Construction materials include metals (steel, stainless steel, aluminum), concrete, epoxy/aggregate, various plastics (polyethylene, recycled plastic), and fiberglass, with containers made of one material or some combination.

Ash jars

Ash jars are usually mounted on pedestals, and present media such as sand or gravel for smokers to suck cigarette butts. This type of cigarette container is also common in a combination unit of ash/garbage, with jars placed on the trash can below.

Wall-mounted wall outlet

Wall mounted cigarette receptacles are manufactured in various shapes, sizes and methods of sewerage. The unit with all metal construction allows throwing cigarette butts into the container without any other necessary extinguishing media. Some containers use separate butt containers for cleaning, while the one-piece model just throws away the used butts.

Cigarette container tub

Tubular cigarette receptacles can be mounted on the wall or freestanding, with varying lengths and diameters. Their simple design allows the butts to be stored directly into the tube, and extinguishes itself. Usually made of metal, no other medium, such as sand or water, is necessary. Construction of one and two pieces is common.

Cigarette stand free standing

Made in a variety of configurations and construction materials, freestanding cigarette containers come in heavy pre-molded concrete, lighter weight stones/epoxy aggregates and lighter materials such as polyethylene, recycled plastic and fiberglass.

Many free-standing cigarette containers use an oxygen-limiting design that extinguishes burning butts. These stylish containers are usually made of plastic, polyethylene and fiberglass printed, with inner layers of metal and metal buckets to collect discarded butts. Due to their oxygen depletion design, no additional extinguishing media is required. Cigarette butts are stored through a small hole and drop a long neck into the collection room. Collection rooms usually accommodate removable buckets.

Other free standing containers, such as those made of pre-cast concrete and rock aggregate materials, depend on water, sand or gravel placed at the collection site to assist in extinguishing the discarded butts. The removal and cleaning of the pedestal is done through a door at the bottom of the container, or, the base and top are separated to allow access to the removed butts.

  • closed aperture to remove overflow of rainwater
  • big snuffer plates for better hygiene and easier targets
  • hidden snuffer screen to prevent ash from falling to the ground.

Accessories

Various sizes of metal buckets provide easy collection and butt removal. For containers with collection buckets, odor absorbent filters and flame retardants, placed in a bucket, use baking soda to control odor and also release CO 2 for fire suppression. The weighted base helps free standing containers to stay stable in bad weather. In areas where security is concerned, bonding, safety cables and locks keep cigarette containers safe from theft and vandalism.
