Russian Caravan is a blend of oolong, keemun and lapsang souchong tea, all produced from Camellia sinensis Chinese tea plants. It is described as aromatic tea and full-bodied with a sweet, rough, and smoky taste. Some varieties do not include lapsang souchong, and thus have a less smoky taste.

Although Chinese tea, its name comes from an 18th-century camel caravan that facilitates transcontinental tea trade from tea-producing areas (ie India, Ceylon and China) to Europe via Russia. "It took at least half a year to travel as far as six thousand miles from the Chinese frontier to the European populated areas of Europe, and the voyage was very loud."

The southern route by Odessa is much cheaper, but tea should suffer in flavor in its transit through tropical oceans, while its tea rises on its way through the cold, arid climate of Mongolia and Siberia, with the loss of unpleasant discomfort (where the tea is dried by direct heat). As the Russian epicure believes that the delicacy of the odd flavor is given to it by the slightly absorbing moisture when the night is lowered and placed on the snow-covered steppes, the price is increased it commands compensate for the greater cost and difficulty transporting it with this route.

Anecdotal evidence says that during the camel caravan ride, the tea took the smoke flame from the fire. Only lapsang souchong (if any) in the mix, however, is actually dry. Some of the blends use yunnan black tea, together with the keunun and lapsang souchong to get colorful tea, mixed with copper, smokey, and tea with a strong flavor with a soft and soft flavor.
