Jay Scott Greenspan (born 23 September 1959), known by his stage name Jason Alexander , is an American actor, voice actor, comedian and director.

Alexander is best known for his role as George Costanza in the Seinfeld television series. Other notable roles include Phillip Stuckey in the movie Pretty Woman (1990) and the title character in the animated series Duckman (1994-1997).

Alexander has an active career on stage, appearing on several Broadway musicals including Jerome Robbins' Broadway in 1989, where he won the Tony Award as Best Actor in Musical. He appeared in Los Angeles Production The Producers . He is Artistic Director of "Reprise! Broadway's Best in Los Angeles", where he has directed some musicals.

Alexander was born in Newark, New Jersey, son of Jewish parents, Ruth Minnie (nÃÆ' Â © e Simon), a nurse and health care administrator, and Alexander B. Greenspan, an accounting manager whose first name Jay borrowed to make his stage name. She has her step sister, Karen Van Horne, and half-brother, Michael Greenspan. Alexander grew up in Livingston, New Jersey, and was a 1977 graduate from Livingston High School. He studied at Boston University but left the summer before his senior year, having worked in New York City. At Boston University, Alexander wanted to pursue classical acting, but a professor steered him toward comedy after his physical attention, remarking, "I know your heart and soul are Hamlet, but you will never play Hamlet." He was awarded an honorary degree in 1995. He was a practicing magician, and turned to acting as a career only after deciding that he might not succeed professionally in a magic career.

Acting career

Career stage

Alexander started his acting career on the stage of New York and was a great singer and dancer. On Broadway he appeared at Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, Kander & amp; Ebb's The Rink , Neil Simon Broadway Bound , Accomplice , and Jerome Robbins' Broadway , which he collected 1989 Tony Award for Best Actor in Musical. Back on stage in 2003, Alexander was cast in a successful run, opposite Martin Short, in the production of Los Angeles Mel Brooks' The Producers . Alexander also appeared with Kelsey Grammer in a 2004 musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol , playing Jacob Marley for the Grammer Ebenezer Scrooge. He continues to appear on stage performances, including the impressive Barbra Streisand birthday party for Stephen Sondheim at the Hollywood Bowl, where he appears with Angela Lansbury, making a selection from Sweeney Todd . Alexander was recently named Artistic Director of the Reprise Theater Company in Los Angeles, where he previously directed Sunday in the Park with George. He is scheduled to direct the upcoming revival of the Damn Yankees in Reprise. In 2015, he replaces Larry David as the lead actor in the show David's Broadway Fish in the Dark. Alexander and his co-star Sherie Rene Scott in the September 1994 world premiere of John Patrick Shanley The Portuguese Kid at the Manhattan Theater Club.

Television

Alexander was recognized as one of the leading actors of the award-winning television sitcom Seinfeld (1989-1998), where he played George Costanza (Seinfeld's best friend of character since childhood). Alexander was nominated for six (6) Primetime Emmy Awards and four (4) Golden Globe Awards for his performance as Costanza, but did not win anything, especially since his opponent Michael Richards was nominated and won for his role as Cosmo Kramer. He did, however, win the Screen Actors Guild Award for Extraordinary Performance by Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his work.

Before Seinfeld, he starred in commercials for John Deere and in the short-lived CBS sitcom called Everything Relative in 1987 which lasted ten episodes. Along with his role Seinfeld, Alexander gave the main character voice in the animated series Duckman cult (1994-1997). Alexander voiced Catbert, the director of evil human resources, in the short Dilbert animated series based on the popular comics.

Alexander made a cameo appearance in the second season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, playing on his own and appearing in the seventh season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, along with three other principals Seinfeld cast member. He has a part in the ABC sitcom of Dinosaurs, as the "Sexual" Harris (Al often involved in sexual harassment) and other voices. Despite his successful career in film and stage, Alexander never managed to repeat his Seinfeld - the success rate on television. 2001 marked his first post-Seinfeld back to prime-time television: a highly promoted but short-lived sitcom Bob Patterson (which was canceled after five episodes). Alexander partially blamed the lack of success on the country's mood after 9/11.

Second chance as leader of TV series, CBS sitcom Listen Up! (September 20, 2004 to April 25, 2005), also failed in the second season. Alexander is the main executive producer of the series, based on the very loose life of popular sports media personality Tony Kornheiser. Alexander appeared on the Family Guy: Live in Vegas CD and sang a stanza in a song. She is featured in "The One Where Rosita Dies" Friend episode as a suicide supply manager named Earl. Phoebe called him to try to sell toner to him and he learned about his problem and tried to persuade him not to kill himself. It is mentioned in an episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Alexander emerged as a neurotic and critical loner called Leonard. She describes herself as free and mentions that she earns money with the work of "selling toner over the phone". Later in the episode, he was repeatedly harassed by a man named George - the name of his character in Seinfeld . Alexander appeared in a 1995 version of Broadway musicals Bye Bye Birdie, as agent of Conrad Birdie, Albert Peterson. She guest starred in episode 8 of the variety show 1996 Muppets Tonight .

Alexander appeared on Star Trek: Voyager in the episode of "Think Tank" playing a genius alien named Kurros who tried to get Seven of Nine to serve on his ship. She appeared on "One Night at Mercy", the first episode of the brief 2002 revival of The Twilight Zone, playing Death. She appeared in the 2005 episode of Monk's Monk and Other Detective monks, as a Monk rival, Marty Eels. On June 26, 2006 episode of talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! , Alexander shows some martial techniques. She is the Host of Celebration July 4, July 4, 2006 at PBS July 4 "Four Capitol Celebrations" in Washington, D.C. where he sings, dances, and plays the drum set. In 2006, Alexander signed to appear as a regular member of the second season Everybody Hates Chris . Alexander is the host of Comedy Central Roast from actor William Shatner on August 13, 2006 (first broadcast: August 20, 2006). In 2007, Alexander was the guest star on the third episode of the improvised comedy series Alhamdulillah Kau Diini . He is often a guest and panelist at: Bill Maher Politically Incorrect and Real Time show; Hollywood Squares ; Late Late Show , with Craig Kilborn and Craig Ferguson; and Late Show with David Letterman .

In 2008, Alexander became a guest star on the CBS Criminal Minds show in the episode of four episodes of "Masterpiece" as Professor. Rothschild, an educated serial killer obsessed with the Fibonacci sequence that sent the team into a race against time to save his last victim. He returned in the same season to direct the episode "Conflict", featuring actor Jackson Rathbone. In 2011, Alexander was a guest star in the episode of Harry's Law, playing a high school teacher carrying the wrong dismissal outfit.

In addition to his role as an insensitive lawyer in Pretty Woman, starring along with Richard Gere, and as an incompetent woman Mauricio on Shallow Hal, with Jack Black, Alexander has appeared in < i> Love! Bravery! Compassion! , Dunston Check In , Love and Action in Chicago , The Last Supper and psychological horror film Jacob Ladder . He voiced Hugo Gargoyle in the Disney animated film of 1996 The Hunchback of Notre Dame and a direct sequel to his video, The Hunchback of Notre Dame II . Other Disney voice jobs include House of Mouse and video games . He has been dreaming of directing, starting with 1996 For Better or Worse and 1999's Just Looking . He also plays the toymaker A.C. Alexander is featured in the country music video of Brad Paisley's "Celebrity" and "Online" music star, the latter of which he directed and won the 2007 Video Music Association of the Year Award for. In August 2012, she starred in Nickelback's "Trying Not to Love You" music video with former Brooke Burns Baywatch star. In January 1995, Alexander made an advertisement for Rold Gold pretzels to be broadcast during the Super Bowl. The ad describes it with Eddie's "Frasier dog" jumping out of an airplane with a parachute over the stadium. Alexander is the national spokesperson for the Scleroderma Foundation, a leading organization dedicated to raising awareness of disease and helping those who suffer. Alexander won a $ 500,000 prize for his choice charity, The United Way of America, to help benefit the New Orleans Area. Alexander played in the main event of the World Series of Poker 2007, but he was eliminated on the second day. He returned to play in 2009. He made it to Day 3 of the event, finishing above 30% of the field. Alexander has appeared on NBC's Poker After Dark in the episode "Celebrity and Mentor", ending in 6th place after being eliminated by professional poker player Gavin Smith. Alexander signed a contract with PokerStars where he played under the screen name "J. Alexander".

Recent appearance

Alexander was host of the opening night of LOL Sudbury in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on May 29, 2008, which aired across Canada in 60 Cineplex cinemas, the first for any comedy festival. She has lent her voice to several episodes of Twilight Zone Radio Dramas.

In 2008 and again in 2009, Alexander led Jason Alexander's Comedy Spectacular, an exclusive routine for Australia. The show consists of stand-up and improvisation and incorporates Alexander's musical talent. He is supported by a number of famous Australian comedians. The first time he performed a show similar to this nature was in 2006 for Jason Alexander's Comedy Christmas. In February/March 2010, Alexander starred in his own show, The Donny Clay Experience , at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada. Donny Clay's character, which he has done on a tour of the United States, is a self-help guru in a print similar to his character Bob Patterson.

It was announced in July 2010 that Alexander will be joining the cast of the Nickelodeon movie based on their series The Fairly OddParents Weird Films: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! and a Quirky Christmas . He plays Cosmo, one of Timmy Turner's fairies.

On January 6, 2010, it was announced that Alexander would be the new face of the weight loss company Jenny Craig.

Personal life

Alexander has been married to Daena E. The title since May 31, 1982. They have two sons, Gabriel and Noah.

Alexander has been a leading public supporter of the OneVoice initiative, which seeks opinions from moderate Israeli and Palestinian people who want to reach mutual peace agreements between their communities. He explains in (July 17, 2009) that he has visited Israel many times. On his performance, he talks about progress towards peace that he recently observed.

In 2012, Alexander announced his support for President Barack Obama's re-election.
