History

It was introduced in 1928 by Macdonald Tobacco as the Macdonald Gold Standard , the boxes were marked "Export" and they were quickly recognized under that name. The best known product is the 'A' Export product line. However, JTI also produces Unlimited 'Unlimited' Export cigarettes and exports rolling tobacco. Cigarettes and rolling tobacco are derived from premium Virginia leaf tobacco.

Beginning in the mid-1930s, the Macdonald cigarette brand was adorned with portraits of a beautiful Scottish woman dressed in traditional dress and wearing Macdonald of Sleat tartan. The model for this trademark is Betty Annan Grant, who poses for paintings by famous Canadian artist Rex Woods. The "Scottish Lassie" , as it is known, was featured on almost all Macdonald cigarettes until the 1970s, and remained on the Export package of "A" cigarettes to this day.

During World War II, a special duty-free variant of the Macdonald Gold Standard was made for Canadian troops to raise public spirits during their battles. On the slide cover, "GIFT to Canadian troops on active service, not for resale." This cigarette has not been borne by the Royal Customs " written.

Ads

Macdonald Tobacco and JTI Macdonald have been making numerous advertising posters for years to promote the Macdonald Cigarette Gold and Export standards, both in French and English. Various accessories are also made, such as Snapback, cigarette lighter, stickers, playing cards, cuffs, rubber coin mats, beer, and so on.

In the 1990s, when Exports was the sponsor of a variety of extreme sports, billboards and special advertising posters were made to promote Export variants.

Some of the slogans used are "Go Your Own Way" (used when advertising extreme sports in Canada in the 1990s) and "Be Different" .
