Cannabis pharmacies in the United States or cannabis pharmacies are physical locations set by local government, usually within a retail store or office building, where one can buy cannabis and cannabis related items for medical or recreational use. First modeled in Amsterdam in the late 1970s where they were plainly called coffee shops will bring Americans over a generation to successfully duplicate the idea of a retail marijuana store. Unlike Dutch coffee shops, pharmacy customers are now barred from consuming marijuana at clinic sites set in all known markets.

In a traditional medical hemp drug store, a patient receives cannabis treatment as permitted by the patient's recommendation. These pharmacies sell cannabis products that have not been approved by the FDA and are not legally registered with the federal government.

In 2016 there is a state cannabis apparatus set up in Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Illinois, Michigan, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Washington DC.

A marijuana pharmacy is different from a similar retail store known as a head store, where only states have marijuana licenses authorized to sell cannabis.

History

The first Dispensary of San Francisco Cannabis Buyers Club was founded in 1992 by Proposition 215 co-authors "Brownie Mary" Rathbun, Dennis Peron and Dale Gieringer.

Washington State became the second country in the US to develop a regulatory framework for cannabis operators that increased access to cannabis patients outside the caregiver model.

The term "marijuana dispensary" in the United States is most often used to refer to private organizations or companies that sell marijuana, especially in the states of California, Colorado, Washington and Oregon. "Cannabis dispensary" begins to be a more politically correct term because conscientious people prefer to use the word cannabis which avoids the use of the more general Spanish "marijuana" slang.

Medical pharmacy

Twenty-three of the United States regulates some form of medical marijuana sale despite federal law. In 2016, the seventeen states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and Washington, DC) has at least one medical marijuana clinic, with various product laws.

State pharmacies in the state buy their outlet products (excluding medical marijuana), such as children's safety bags, and in-store storage products, from a large number of new manufacturing firms in China primarily through importers based in US.

The increasing need for pharmacies to comply with various legislative laws has spawned thousands of new products ranging from bottles with children's keys on top to bottles of pop tops that are child resistant tubes and even to children.

For example, by Title 16 C.F.R. 1700 of the Poisons Prevention Act in Washington, any marijuana product, whether edibles, concentrates, or candles that can be consumed either by inhaling or swallowing should be sold in child resistant packaging.

In 2016, California passes Proposition 64, legalizing the sale of cannabis for all adults aged 21 years and over from January 2018.
