Mashed sausage is a standard menu in fish and chip shops throughout the UK, often described as an "essential" staple food from the fish and chips shop menu. They consist of pork sausages dipped in batter (usually the same dough used for fish batter), and usually served with chips.

Australia and New Zealand

In Australia, this can be referred to as "outdated sav" (saveloy is a type of sausage). It may also have spawned the local phrase "fair suck of the sav". In New Zealand, they can be found either with or without a stick inserted (similar to a corn dog). If served with a stick, this is called a hot dog and is usually dipped in a lot of tomato sauce and immediately consumed. In Australia, this variant can also be called a Pluto Dog or Dagwood Dog.
